HD camera video to regular format?
I will be getting an HD camcorder for christmas, however i am unfamiliar with this specific technology so I have a few questions:
- What format do HD camcorders normally output to?
- Is it possible to convert these to regular video files? (.mpg .avi etc) and if so which would be the best format to convert to whilst still retaining a good picture?
I have a 1080p HD TV, blu ray player and gold plated HDMI cables so viewing the files is not a problem, however I would like to burn the files to 4.7GB DVD discs if possible for storage and viewing on my blu ray player, again, is this possible?
Any answers would be greatly appreciated, thank you =D

Your question is more about software than the camera. It’s the software that you’ll use to convert files and burn them to DVDs.
I have a Canon HG10 HD camera, and I regularly convert the files to ‘regular’ files. I’m Mac based, so I use Final Cut Pro. (Apple also makes Final Cut Express) for far less. iMovie works to …
On Windows, I’ve heard people like Sony Vegas. I’ve never used it, so I don’t know for certain … but I imagine it will do the same thing.
Good luck!
I just ordered Adobe Premiere Elements 7 from Amazon.com ($82.99).
Check it out at:

Search the web page and it has a menu to see sample movies of what it can do. I think it will handle your needs.
