how do i capture mini dv video without KILLING my mini DV camera?
is there another way to capture the film without having to play the whole video on the camera?

Nope. MiniDV captures real time… Hit Capture or Import and go do something else. There is no reason for you to sit there and stare at it. It won’t break or blow up… and when it gets to the end of the tape, it will stop. No big deal, no drama.
Not without buying an expensive deck. Why do you think capturing is going to kill your camcorder?
