Does a 720p/i TV make lower resolution videos seem clearer than watching them on a 1080p/i TV?
It makes sense, but I’m asking for an opinion from someone that may have a little bit more experience with a TV. the reason I’m asking is because I have a video camera that records at standard definition. It does have 16:9 aspect ratio, but it’s definitely not HD. I watch it on my 45.9" 1080i lcd TV, it just doesn’t look as clear. I wonder if it’s because it’s destorted or not. Then I watch it on my sisters TV, which is 42" 1080/720i (I don’t know if it’s 1080 or 720) and it’s a lot more clear, and defined than on my TV. This made me wonder if maybe she has a 720 pixel TV, and with fewer pixels, it didn’t need to fill in the space, creating the clearer picture. I don’t know, tell me if it’s maybe just the TV, or if there is definitely a difference between 720 and 1080 on making standard definition look better. Thanks.

You are correct.
In two TVs, with the same resolution, the one with the smaller size will look sharper, because there are more pixels/constant area
In two TVs with the same size, a SD image will look better on the 720p than the 1080p because there is less scaling.
the ‘p’ in 720p or 1080p does not stand for pixel. It stands for ‘progressive’-the way in which the tv scans.
720p is approximately the same resoulution as 1080i.
1080p is about 2 million pixels
720p is about 1 million pixels
the difference is the quality of the processor of your tv. That makes
a huge difference.
