What should I look for or ask when buying a used Canon HV30 HD camcorder?

I’m looking to buy a Used Canon HV30 Camcorder. I was wondering what should I look for, test, and ask when buying the camera? I would like to know to limit my chances of getting ‘ripped off’. Also, is 0 for a ‘like new’ Canon HV30 Camcorder.

Its not easy, but you have to be comfortable/trust the seller.

Ask how many tapes have been used, take a new tape with you and record a few minutes on it then press the record button, to start record then count to two an stop, do this again maybe ten times, then watch the playback. if it looks clean and sharp the heads should be ok, any pixels on the display do it again. if there are any recording problems don’t bother. Eject the tape and re insert it, make sure it moves smoothly.

look at the case, are there any marks on it that could point to a hard knock or its been dropped. Normal wear and tear are not of concern.

make sure ALL the paperwork its with it, handbook and the like. is there any guarantee even if its only a couple of weeks.

    Good luck

    Nice camera
