The Sony HDR-HC9 is a great camera if you’re looking for something around $1000. You need to perfect lighting, composition, and sound before you film though because if you don’t do those well then a camera won’t make any difference in the quality of the work.
I have the Canon HV30, and have seen excellent quality from those cameras!

first learn to light and frame. A fantastic camera is worthless unless you know how to do these two things.
