Well, that depends on what you need to do with the videos. Higher-grade editors add more features and also make the process easier with workflow adjustments...of course, the better the package, the more you'll pay.

Good basic ones are Ulead VideoStudio, Pinnacle Studio, there are a bunch of them. Don't forget Windows Movie Maker and Apple iMovie (Mac only).

Mid-range ones include Ulead MediaStudio Pro, Avid Liquid, and Apple Final Cut Express (Mac only). Again, there are many more; just giving you an idea of what's out there.

If you're really into editing, you can look at pro-level stuff like Avid Xpress Pro (my current editor), Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere, and Apple Final Cut Pro (Mac only).

Get a good look at the system requirements at any editor you're looking at, and make sure your computer meets the specs. Video editing eats up HUGE amounts of system resources.

Free trial versions are available for many of the above pieces of software, so you can try before you buy. Furthermore, if you're a student, there are often educational versions or discounts available. Check with the software manufacturers' websites or academic resellers like http://www.specialtyvideosupply.com .

Any other questions, ask away!
