I think that the Digital Video Cameras, as the ones with MiniDV as the recorder device, are the best. One: minidv are cheaper and more trustables than the dvds. Second: it is faster that u download the minidv data from your camcorder to your pc, instead of from your DVD camera to your pc. A cassette is easier to read than a dvd. Third: MInidv Cameras are smallers and come with more functions like slow motion rec, and allows you to record a high quality still image. Remember, once you finish to record a dvd, you need to burn it (like when you full close an audio cd from Nero) to play it on your standar dvd player.

.it all really depends on whether you want to edit or not..dvd is a much highter compression than mini dv.the same goes for the hard drive cameras..if you just want to record and then watch then dvd and hard drive is fine..if you want to edit then get mini dv.
